There are some things you are going to like about the Everstrike Software-developed application USBSpy, and a couple of things you are not going to like. Let’s start on a positive note and focus on the things you are going to like.

Starting in a logical progression, you are going to like that getting the application off the web and onto your computer will only take a moment – downloading the application is the first step you must take should you decide to put USBSpy through its paces. Since the download weighs in at a mere 2.1MB, it will complete in very little time (even if you are on a less than spectacular internet connection).

The next thing you are going to like is that installing the application is a simple, straightforward process that goes along smoothly and rapidly. Just follow the instructions presented by the setup wizard and you will be done before you know it. USBSpy can be installed on Windows 7, Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit edition), Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.

The thing you will like best about this application is what it can do for you. To put things in perspective, here is the sort of functionality you can expect to get from USBSpy:
- Capture, display, record and analyze data that's transferred between any USB device connected to PC and applications.
- Intercept all I/O requests and events between a USB device and its host
- Extended search and filtering options
- Triggers on packet types, device requests, completion statuses, errors, and so on.
- Automatic capture of hot-plugged devices
- Interception at system boot
- Export traffic logs as XML

Now here are the parts you are not going to like. You can use the application only during a rather short trial period of 15 days. While using the trial version you will see registration reminders, and you will not have access to certain features – which can prove to be a bit annoying.

Pros

  • Lightweight download
  • Easy to use
  • Monitor traffic between any USB device and the PC
  • Works with Windows 7

Cons

  • Free to try
